This is where I read about getting SSI. I just went to the local ss office. they file out out all the form you need. You need to bring your birth certificate, ss card and a voided check. I also gave them a copy of my BMB and a list of my Rx. It took less then hour. I thought I would try my self first before hiring a lawyer. But I didn't need a lawyer it went right threw without any hitches.
http://www.social-security-disability-claims.org/Social-Security- Disability-explained.html#01 The thing about getting SS Disability was there is a 6 month waiting period before it starts and then after 2 years you qualify for medicare or medicaid I always get those two mixed up but the one that pays part of your medical bills. I ran out of sick leave at work but I didn't use my annual leave. I took that in a lump sum payment so that my pension would start the day after my sick leave ran out. That also counted as my last day of work for ss. I also recieved an monatary award from work for an outstanding work proformace. That of course was before I got CML. I was also able to get disability retirement from my job. I had 24 years and 11 months. I know that the federal government does take care of their employees but many private companies do too. My Husband's company has a better deal than I got. You should check with your benifits coordinater. I hope this information in someway helps you or others on the board.
