Hi everyone,
I would like to reintroduce myself to the group since it is the first
of the year and I don't post often.
My name is Joan Porter and I am 67 years old. I live in Jacksonville,
Florida. I was first dx'd on 8/4/03. I had been having vision
problems and like others I had a bloodtest done, because I was going
to have eye surgery for a macular hole in the left eye. I think it
occured because my white count was so high 160.2K. By the way I have
still yet to have the eye surgery. I was placed on Hydrea for several
days and then switched to 400 mg Gleevec. I reached cytogentic
remission in march of 2004 I had a 0.6% on my FISH. In November 2004
it was 0.017%. I am going to request a PCR when I see my oncologist
on Feb.2, 2005. I have had a hard 3 weeks. I've had ear infection,
plurisy, sinus infection etc. My primary put me on Avelox, Inhalers,
and nose spray. Night before last I had a terrible bout with the BIG
D. Also last night I had blood on tissue that has scared me. I will
discuss this tomorrow when I go for my monthly blood draw. I have
been on Procrit on and off since I started Gleevec. Fortunately I am
still able to work through all of this. Mainly because I have good
insurance.
I am have a pretty good support system. I am divorced now for 5
years. My son, daughter, husband and children live close to me. I
have 3 grandchilren and 1 great-grandaughter. I have 3 Bichonsto
comfort me, that I was breeding until I got sick.
I would like to attend the local meetup in Jacksonville, but it is on
a night I work. Lisa M. and Zavie M. have both been very helpful to
me.
I was deeply saddened at the loss of our two fellow members. It is
scary to learn of this.
I pray that every member of this group keeps their spirits up and
FIGHT HARD in 2005. I pray that God will continue to heal and protect
us through every step of the process.
