If I read the story correctly (hopefully I did) 
I think that it was referring to the treatment of interferon. 
The choice of that treatment back then was also a hard one to make. The side
affects were horrible to say the least. Unlike chemo that�s given over
periods of time it was a daily injection. 
Sorry I don't remember if you ever took that treatment yourself so I
apologize if I am explaining something you may already know. 
I personally took interferon daily and ARC injections 10 days a month for a
whole year! 
And the quality of life was no where near what I have with Gleevec. Thank
God. 
Although, I promise I am not being uncompassionate about those who do have a
much tougher time with Gleevec and I do know how fortunate I am to tolerate
it so well.

Yes, I enjoyed that story also.
I wonder how many of us sometimes feel the treatment is worse than the 
disease.
