Nancy,
I have had CML now for over three years, and
have been taking Gleevec for over two years
now....
I started on 400 mg and have been increased up to
600mg several times only to find that at that level
it is toxic for me. My blood counts really go
to pot, In fact I had to have transfusions to overcome the
amemia, even with the support of Procrit of 40,000
units and even 60,000 units per week. All this and my
cytogenic response was only moderate. I
have been able to achieve at the lovest, 27% levels with FISH peripheral
blood tests. I am now in the process of being backed off on the
Gleevec dosage so that I can
hopefully regain my hematological balance.
But remember I was dx at age 60...and well advanced in the
chronic phase. My initial WBC count was
497,000. At this point I am doing well ( with the exception )
of
the anemia. Living a fairly normal
life. Good luck, keep the faith. Looks like you are doing well, and
on
your way to the ZERO club.
