The financial aspects are very difficult for many who consider having a BMT. Only a small percentage of the U.S. population has sufficient health insurance or enough assets to cover the cost of a BMT. At facilities that require patients to make a deposit up front of $100,000, $200,000, or more etc. in cash that puts it out of the reach of many even if that is the route they decide they want to go. Some in the past have been able to get BMT's through state operated Medicaid programs but that is becoming a more difficult route as those programs have their budgets substantially cut or are essentially shut down as is the case with Medicaid in Mississippi and Tennessee.
