I am not sure if Gleevec (IM) might affect a person's mood directly, your irritability might be stress related. However for what it is worth I offer you this information from my own experience. 10 months after starting IM after having gone 18 months on IFN, I noticed that I was becoming more irritable and it was quite difficult for me to control at times. I spoke to my doctor about this and we discussed the possibility of it being related to cerebral edema, which some CML experts think happens with some patients. Actually Dr. B. Druker and Dr. S. Nimer both spoke to me about this as I also SCUBA dive and they have restricted me to diving up to depths of only 33 ft because they are not sure of what the change in pressure might do with regards to cerebral edema. My doctor also told me about a patient on 800mg and the patient called him and said not only was he more irritable, he was almost to the point of acting out and becoming physically agressive and he was scared. The patient was hospitalized briefly and taken off of Gleevec for a few weeks after which he resumed gleevec. It seemed to have helped. I took a two week break, but I was already PCRU, and my doctor was aware of it, and it helped tremendously. However, I do have to agree with Richard R. When we finally "see" that our lives will not go on forever we begin to realize how important this time is right now. It follows that if we are not happy in this "here and now" it might show up with increased anger. Take a bit of time to stop and think about what might make you happy for now and in the future, then but a plan in place to go after it. After quite a long time I have finally realized that it is o.k. for me to go after what I want in life, and that is the best medicine there is! Good luck to you and keep us posted.
