I've been on Gleevec for five years now and in the last six months I've had cosiderable hair thinning in the front of my hairline.  I take it for granted that this is a delayed or cumulative Gleevec side effect because in my family, none of the women suffered obvious hair loss after the age of 65, and so I would have no genetic predisposition to it.  My thyroid levels are within normal range, so that does not seem to be part of the problem.  It would be interesting to know exactly what is operating here, to cause this problem so long after starting Gleevec.
I note with interest that a person who posted on 2/26 is on combined Gleevec and PgIntron with no extreme side-effects.  When I was first dx, I was put on a PgIntron study for a year, with devastating side-effects.  More proof that all medication is an extremely individual matter. I also wonder if there are gender differences in reaction to Gleevec, and if certain side-effects are more prevalent in one gender than another.  ViVi
