Hi Merv,

I've been on gleevec now for 3 months (diagnosed 12/26/03) and may have experienced what you're talking about.

As soon as I went on gleevec, I found that it affected my sleeping and I would lie awake at night and I would hear my pulse banging loudly in my head.  It felt like it was throbbing--and I could hear it like a drum. The more I heard this, the harder it was to sleep. The more I didn't sleep, the louder it became. My dosage was 600 -- 4 days later the doctor lowered me to 400 and this symptom went away.  About a month later, I tried going up to 800 and it came back again, along with a host of other side effects. I lowered the dose and it went away.

This symptom I think was described to me as 'perorbital swelling' -- meaning, I think, swelling in the head. Swelling is one of the side effects of gleevec.

How long have you been on gleevec? Have you upped your dosage recently?

Michael
