Pat,

My name is Bob Ash and I have been in the phase 1 BMS 354825 trial since June.

I started the trial after three years on Gleevec and a then current doe of 800 mg/day.  I had more side effects than I can imagine and became totally resistant to the drug.  The BMS drug doesn't have side effects.

I called Dr. Talpaz on a Moday in June and he told me he would see me on that Friday if I could get there for Thursday blood draws.

I have hold the record for responce to the BMS drug as I took 70 mg for three days and had to be taken from the drug as it took me from blast to chronic phase in that short period of time.

There is a three month residency requirement for the phase one trial and I must return to Houston every two weeks for a checkup.  I look for this to change to once a month in the near future.

As to your comment about mutation testing, M.D. Anderson does mutation testing and their blood tests are complete within a couple of hours as are partial bone marrow test results.  A bone marrow aspitation in MDACC is a real change from most local oncologists.  The major pain I get from their BMA is the lidacane (sp) shot and there is very little pain from the BMB test.

I went to MDACC because it was the only option I had.  The success rate of the people in the trial is geat with the only fear being that of having the T315I mutation.  They can do something about that and there is a new drug in the works that is targeting that mutation.

If I can offer anything about BMS 354825 or MDACC, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone or email.  phone 330.385.2400 (days) 330.385.5149 (evenings), or [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In closing, being terrified about this disease is nothing new to me as I have had a few scares since January of 2000.

Bob Ash
