i'm the mother of a now 13 yr old who was dx'd at 11...i too made sure the doctors and nurses explained each procedure and what it was for...she sat in all the meetings we had (i was asked first if it should be private between myself and the team or have her sit in on the meetings), so she knows what to expect....needless to say she doesn't fear her visits, she actually looks forward to the trips just so she could go into the indoor tree house, the treats they are offered after a blood test and all the things a child could imagine experiencing in such a wonderful facility and team of oncology workers...i'm glad i made the decision of keeping her informed of every decision being made, i didn't want her to be scared, it helped big time...i always thought if i was scared, she's probably more scared so we better get on with trying to learn as much as we both could
