When I was diagnosed I was put on 400mg Gleevec.  My oncologist said that I am responding very well.  My counts were normal in one week.  After I was referred to another oncologist – specialist for CML and he told me that I responded very well on Gleevec, but he would suggest 600 mg for me because there is some study that 600 mg works the best and also there is less possibility with 600 mg that I can get resistant to Gleevec. I would prefer to take 400 mg, since I hate taking pills and I was told that I am doing fine. They did not do a FISH test or BMB to check on me, so I was wondering that maybe I should stay on 400 mg, check my results and after change the dosage in case it doesn’t work well. During my treatment on Gleevec I was put on 400 mg twice because my counts were too low. Finally after 4 months my oncologist said to do a BMB and a FISH test. Three days before I was supposed to have my BMB done with my primary oncologist.  I went to the another doctor (specialist one in Baltimore) and he told me that I do not need to have another BMB done after 4 months. He said it is enough to have it done in 6 months and he just did a FISH test and HLA typing since my sister is here. (She arrived 2 weeks ago so finally she brought a piece of my home to the US. I am enjoying our time together. Unfortunately in 3.5 months she has to go back to Slovakia. )

Is there anybody who was or is going through the same process as me? I see many people taking 400 mg and they seem to do well.

Also what would happen if I would break one of my bones? Would it have any affect on my treatment, or on my CML?

Thank you, have a nice day all…

Livia
