Hi Anthony: Yes when I first started on Gleevec I had to take a break from it for a couple weeks to give my bone marrow time to recover. The way my oncologist explained it to me the bad white blood cells were crowding everything out. After Gleevec gets rid of them your bone marrow needs a chance to recover and start making the right kind of cells.
I have heard of others who have had to take a break like this. It is the only Gleevec break I have taken in the 3 years that I have been on Gleevec. Your counts should start to come up and then you can restart the Gleevec.
