Hi, this is not all that unusual with Gleevec. With older chemotherapy
a doctor would panic with this result, but with Gleevec this (panic) is
not normally needed!

The thing for the Doctor to watch is the Absolute Neutrophil Count
(ANC) and this should not be allowed to get below 1000/mm. This count
is calculated by multiplying the WBC times the Neut%. Only when this
count goes below 1,000/mm or the platelet count goes below 50,000,
should the doctor stop the Gleevec for a short period.

I am basing this information on a file I just uploaded to the group and
named "Management of CML 0303.pdf"! This is an IMPORTANT document that
should be shared with everyone's ONC - it is scientific and
authoritative! When I shared it with my first ONC he immediately
changed his approach to using Gleevec and it saved my life! You should
read the document yourself, especially the paragraph called "Managing
Adverse Events During Imatinib Therapy - Myelosupression"

You will need and Adobe Reader to view/print this file. Just
Google "Adobe Reader" and download the program... it is free!
