Clinical trials also have Phase 1, Phase 2, etc. The Phase 1 is usally
a very small group of patients of 30 to 50 or so and then is expanded to a
larger number of patients with many trial centers. Some in this group were among
the first in the world to take Gleevec when it was unknown if it would even
work. The same is taking place with those who are among the first to take the
BMS, AMN, and other drugs. If there is success with the first small
group of patients the trials are then expanded to larger groups.
