Hi,
I am not one to post often but I do read and keep up with the things on the sight.
I need some information, if any of you are willing to share.
My son has had CML for almost 3 years. He did well on gleeve 400 mg for some time but relapsed and so they upped his gleevec to 600mg. He has been doing well on that but last night his blood test showed his white count is up to 30,000.
Since he is a med student working in the ER the ER Doc. picked up the phone and called his onc about the blood test. She immediately wants him to get on the blood marrow donor list and to go on hydroxey (sp). I am a little surprised by her response and was wondering what the people in the group think?
I would have thought they would try 800 mg. next or have him try to get into a trial before sending him right to a donor program. He is in eastern Kentucky and his onc is not a CML specialist. She see all kinds of cancer and infectous disease patients so I wonder if she really knows that much about his cancer.
I guess what I want to know is would you guys to to hydroxy or ask about increasing the gleevec first? Do any of you know of a good CML onc. in the Lexington area? He is about 2 hours from Lexington and so that would be the best place to try to seek help. Does anyone know of trials going on in Kentucky and how one goes about getting into a trial?
Thanks for your help.
