Hi,

I am not one to write and post often but I do read the mail sent out on a regular basis.

I received some wonderful support some time ago when my son lost his remission and his gleevec was increased to 600 mg. per day. He had been doing well on that dosage but last night he was told that he is not doing well. His white count is up to 30,000.

He is in med school in eastern Kentucky and when he contacted his onc. she immediately told him to get on the bone marrow list so they can start hunting for a donor for a transplant. He has no natural siblings (only adopted).

I am a little surprised by her reaction. I would have thought she would have increased his gleevec or suggest he try to get in a trial instead of jumping right into transplant. He has 1 1/2 years of med school left and it would be great if he could get through that time before doing something drastic.

What do the rest of you think about this? Does anyone know of a good CML specialist in the Lexington area? He is about 2 hours from there but it is the closest big city which might have a CML doctor.

Any help of response will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Penny (a sad and worried mom)
