Michael....I am sorry it took me so long to see your note.  Going to 600 mg. Gleevec is a good move because nowadays, that is the atarting dose for most people.  The doctor wants you to have the deepest, fastest remission possible because that will help ensure your longevity.   Regarding your remission in such a short time, remember there are three different types of remission.  Hematological remission means that your blood counts have returned to normal.  They won't have rechecked any cytogenics yet--most likely.  Remember with cytogenic the goal is greater than a 3 log reduction within one year.
Are you in St. Louis?  Is that why you are going to Wash. Univ. for workup for transplant?  I do know they are one of the research sites doing huge research on new procedures for transplant and working hard to cure graft versus host disease.  Do you have a sibling match?  How old are you?  With all the new drugs in trials, I am surprised that you doctor is wanting you to so quickly check this out.
