Dear Jeanie, I know a patient whose platelet counts crossed 3 million, she did not have much symptoms. With high platelet counts like that, doctors say there is a danger of blood clots and thrombosis. My friend with the high platelet counts had deep vein thrombosis in her legs. She had apheresis done and took Agrylin.
At 500,000, your platelet counts are just above normal, talk to your onc about this again and check your FISH results, soon. Like Karen said, you have to rule out disease progression.
