Sheila, When I was diangosed in March 2006, my doctors waited until I had confirmation that I was Ph+ before deciding to start the Gleevec. I was put on Hydrea for about 2 weeks. I also had 2 rounds of leukapheresis to bring my WBC down. They also held off until I went to Dana-Farber to make sure I would not be excluded from a drug trial if I had already started Gleevec. Once everything was confirmed and I decided not to do the trial, I was started on 400 mg of the Gleevec. So far so good.
