Actually, according to the literature, Gleevec is out of your system
(i.e. no trace in urine, feces, or blood) in about 7 to 10 days.
However, the side effects take much longer to go away. In the case of
edema, some say it is due to leaky capillaries, when fluid leaks out of
the capillary into the surrounding tissue, but I do not think science
understands yet if all cases of edema are because of that or due to a
potential for heart problems as has been recently talked about. So, in
the case of edema, if it is caused by leaky capillaries, then you can
understand that it will take time for your body to be able to rid
itself of the excessive fluid build up. This is why it is so important
to report and demand if necessary appropriate management of them right
away. The longer we allow the side effects to go on un-resolved or un
treated the more exacerbating they get, and are probably much harder to
treat.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,
Cheryl-Anne
