I live in Adelaide, South Australia. I have never been in remission but my doctor said they only class you as being in remission after 2 years at 0. This is because you may still have a very small amount of Leukaemia still in your blood & the tests are not sensitive enough to detect these small amounts. They have worked out that it takes approx. 2 yrs for you to get rid of the last bit of leukaemia. He also was trialling patients that had a remission (2yrs at 0 or more) & taking them off Gleevec. I am not sure of the results but I do know some patients who started on the trial & they got scared so they started it again. Maybe you could check if any doctors in your area have trialled this possibility.
