Hello, I am new to this board and I've been reading some of the posts
with great interest. I don't even know if I am writing to the correct
email address. If I am not in the right place I apologize for the
error.
My husband was diagnosed with Philadelphia Chromosome positive CML in
December 05. He was immediately put on Gleevec with very good results.
In July he was told he was in cytogenic remission and very close to
molecular remission. During the first nine months on the Gleevec he
experienced very few if any side effects. His blood was checked
regularly and although his WBC dropped very low at the beginning it
stabilized shortly after that. However, October's blood work showed a
liver enzyme result of 250 and then the November result skyrocketed to
575. The oncologist took him off the Gleevec until the numbers come
back down to normal. They have been steadily decreasing by about 25%
each week. When they were at about double normal (about 100) the dr.
put him back on 300mg Gleevec (he had been taking 400mg). After
consulting with Stanford Medical center the conclusion was that his
liver enzymes needed to be in the normal range so the dr. took him off
the Gleevec again. His liver enzymes were tested again and last week
they started going up. In addition to this he has dropped further away
from being in molecular remission. I have a couple of questions for
anyone willing to listen. What is the longest any of you have been on
Gleevec? Have any of you experienced a problem with your liver? If
so, have you been changed to Sprycell? I would appreciate any and all
information that someone wants to share with me. Thanks for your
time...Judith
