Hi Sherri:
Welcome to our group. Sorry for the reason, though. You will find lots of help here from those of us with CML & taking Gleevec. All you have to do is ask.........someone here has probably been through what ever it is you are asking about at one time or another. (LOL). Yes, most of us have the "weird bone pain"......among many other side affects. Just hang in there.......I've learned having a "positive" attitude about the whole situation helps you go a long, long way. Another thing I've also learned since dx'es, Leukemia is not discriminatory...........it strikes any & everybody from young to elderly. I was told in the beginning that CML strikes those of us 45 years and older........well, being in this group, I've learned that isn't the case any longer as we have some here that are ten years young & many in their twenties. I was dx'ed almost 3 years ago (will be in four weeks) & began Gleevec about three weeks later. I've had my ups & downs with it, but it's much better than the alternative of Interferon & Hydroxyurea. Also, Sherri, I have found by incorrparating many supplements daily, you will feel much, much better. Flaxseed Oil (3000 mgs.) not only helps your heart, but it also helps the skin, hair, & nails. Some of us on Gleevec experience dry skin & brittle nails. I take 3000 mgs. of Fish Oil as well. Also, B-12 (Sublingual dots) as well as the other B-Complex vitamins are also very good to help keep your energy level up. I also began "Juice Plus" almost a year ago & feel that it has also helped. Some seem to think that it has helped keep the "rash" at bay that some Gleevec patients get. I have only noticed a slight one on my chest that mildly itched, but it's gone. I think it has helped my sinus problems.....I haven't had sinus headaches or an infection in quiet a while. I use to get those a lot & took allergy medicine such as Claritin or Zyrtec all the time. You should also take extra calcium to alleviate the muscle cramps......I take two of the Viactive Chews with Vitamin D. I know that's only 1000 mgs., but with the multi-vitamin I also take as well as the daily Estroven, I am getting calcium from other sources. I know that this sounds like an awful lot of extra stuff to take, but I can honestly say I haven't felt as good as I do today in a long while. I don't notice the fatigue I struggled with before......as well as not having the awful muscle cramps as much. There were days before I began taking all of this where I didn't care whether I got up out of bed or not when I would awaken each morning. Now, I actually think of "what is it that I want to do today". Even my husband has noticed a difference. The main thing I can say..........stay as active as you can....don't give in to the pain or fatigue as I did. I have lost so much muscle.......I will slowly have to work on building my strength back up which I am planning on beginning this week. Am going to check out an excercise place here not far from where I live that's on the same order as Curve's. I think I would come more to staying with that program rather than just going to a gym somewhere & doing my own thing. At Curve's you are in and out within 30 minutes, I like that. Plus, I'll try to start walking again (dog would like that, I'm sure). I am sorry to be so long here........just wanted to welcome you. You will find lots of help from people like Mike, Trey, & Anjana, as well as others here. Feel free to ask anything......trust me, we've all been there. Keep Looking Up, Suzieq --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ [CMLHope] A support group of http://cmlhope.com ------------------------------------------------- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "CMLHope" group.
