Hi Deb, My husband, Cam (age 34) is in a very similar situation. He too was on Gleevec then Sprycel. During the Christmas break he suddenly went into blast crisis and is now receiving induction chemotherapy. They are trying to get him back to chronic phase so that he can receive his bone marrow transplant. It all happened so suddenly and there was not much time to think about anything or plan much. Luckily we have good family support. My parents are taking care of our kids while I am at the hospital with Cam, which is 3 hours from where we live. I am staying with a wonderful friend who has CML and has opened her home to me. The best advice I can give to you right now is just worry about one day at a time. This journey is a monstrous elephant that we can eat, if only one bite at a time. When you think about everything it does become very overwhelming. Just focus on what you need to that will get you through today. Think about tomorrow when it comes. I'm not sure about your money/insurance issues because I live in Canada. Do keep all the receipts for medical expenses eg. parking, traveling, medication, accomodations, etc. as you can probably use it for a tax deduction later. The hardest part about the ordeal is not seeing our kids but we video chat with them over the computer each night. I pray that all goes well for you and your husband and I will look forward to hearing about his progress.
