Hi and so sorry to hear about Rusty. He will be in my prayers.
My husband, who passed away in 1998 from heart problems, had to apply for
disability.
He tried on his own 3 times and even though he had all the evidence that he
couldn't work,(by pass surgery and etc) he was turned down. He then hired a
lawyer and got his SS disability right away.
The lawyer took a chunk but he just couldn't get it otherwise, so my advise,
is get a good SS disability lawyer and go from there. My hubby got a check
for when he first became disabled, the lawyer took his part and we still had
some left over and then he got his checks every month.
Other wise just apply for the disability and hope for the best.
You know I just thought of something, my Gleevec has worked for about 4
years also and now my blood is acting up. Anyone have this happen?
Blessings,
Jeanie<3

My husband of 32 years, Rusty (age 53), was dx in 2001. Gleevec was
very successful until Dec. 2006, he was then put on Sprycel and was
making good progress until a few weeks ago when the CML got nasty and
took a vicious turn. He is now in the hospital about 60 miles from
home. They are planning to start chemo Friday in hopes of keeping the
CML at bay until a BMT (mini transplant) can take place in a month or
so. I know many of you folks out there (both patients and spouses)
have been through this ordeal and was hoping that you could offer some
words of advice, comfort, tips, prayers, etc. for helping our family
to get through the rough months ahead. This all seems so overwhelming!
We will be without his income (fortunately I carry wonderful health
insurance) and have already found that the trips to the hospital are
draining - physically, emotionally, and financially. Can anyone offer
tips about applying for Social Security Disability, etc. Any advice
would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
Deb (wife of Rusty)
