Dear Jeanie, A higher Gleevec dose can decrease blood counts like the neutrophils. Most doctors stop Gleevec if the Absolute Neutrophils are below 1000. And then restart once the neutrophils are up. Neutrophil cells are white cells which fight infection and if you do not have too many of them, then infections cannot be fought. So, below 1000, most docs stop Gleevec.
