Hi Donna, Here in Springfield I see Dr. Roger Holden, M.D., Ph. D. My main Doctor is in Chicago, Illinois, Northwestern Medical Faculty. 675 North St. Clair Street, Suite 21st floor. His name is Martin S. Tallman, MD. he is head of Oncology. 312-695-0990. We lived in Hobart, IN. and when I found out I had CML I was sent to a Cancer Health Center in Muster, IN. The Dr. their referred me to Northwestern. They put me in a trail on Interferon which almost killed me. Six months later Dr. Tallman called me and told me to come see him. Novartis was starting a phase II study and I was one of eight people picked for the study. Older age sometimes helps. Their were 200 people in the study. This was before it was approved by the FDA. I was taking 4 pills a day put broke out with the rash, etc. They dropped me down to 3 pills at that time they still didn't have a clue as to how many pills should be taken. I've been on 3 pills almost from the start, that was the first of FEB. 2000. I only use Dr. Holden so that I can get my blood work every six weeks, I have to see him every 6 months, put I'm going to change that to once a year. I have my BMB in June at Chicago and 6 month checkup in DEC. It's a 9 hour drive but as long as I stay in the first study, Northwestern will supply me with Gleevec at no change, so I do what they tell me. As for Dr. Holden, he seems O. K. they don't deal will as many CML people here, where Chicago has so many that have CML. I no one thing the bottom line is they don't want you taking less then 3 pills. Hope this helps.
