Dear Nancy,Your side effects sound terrible....I feel aweful for you...I switched from Gleevec to Taskigna because of swelling around the lungs as well as legs..very short of breath and severe muscle/bone pain...Tasigna has been better in many ways...you should be given the option to change meds and try an alternative. This is medication we need to take for our lives. A quality of life as well as health are important. Your side effects are very severe. There are now three other options, and as of this June, Tasigna is a first line drug for CML. Dasatinib is also an option along with another drug that is scheduled to become available in October if all goes well.... Please get a second opinion if your doc is refusing to switch you...ask him what is rational is? Tasigna does not have the swelling issue for most people..it does have sugar issues for some, liver toxicity...constipation, rashes...etc..but not for everybody..each drug affects each of us differently...all we can do is try....and keep the faith...and be positive for one another...I have heard that Sloan Kettering has several docs that are very knowledgeable about CML. Where are you being treated???is it by a doc that specializes in CML? if you have not already gotten a recent second opinion..please think about it...I am concerned for you..self advocacy is so important..listening to our guts is equally important...have you had blood levels checked? You could be toxic on the Gleevec..and need a much smaller dose to achieve the same result...many people are on less than the standard dose and do well...are you in remission? have you stayed in remission???
