Hi

Alohajody,

Who really knows for sure exactly what is going on with JAL? Since he is a
celebrity his press contacts can say anything he wants them to say...

I am a 22 year survivor because of a BMT because none of these drugs were
around at the time. Am I cured? Well my ABL-PCR is zero, but I still paid a
price besides having a BMT.

Since this was rather new at the time they didn't know then what they do
now. I ended up with stage four renal failure and became Diabetic, so
whether or not you get a BMT or remain on any of these new drugs there is
always "something" that you will probably have to deal with down the road.

If there were these drugs at the time I had CML then you can bet that I
would have opted for using the drugs, even for the rest of my life rather
then have gone through hell and back..

Now, I actually know several people that were on Gleevec for several years
and ended up "cured" and are now off of it. Likewise for Alpha Interferron.
In fact a very close friend of mine who really struggled with the
Interferron and his CML is now considered "cured"

So whatever you go through now, at least your alive to go through it, and
you never know what the future will bring. And, I am a living example
of just this.

My Kidney function has improved as well as my Diabetes. I just finished up
with stem cell therapy, this is not a transplant but rather many Neupogen
injections through a course of six weeks every day including Saturday and
Sunday. This treatment would actually make my white blood counts rise,
usually to slightly under 60,000 and if another doctor would have taken by
blood work he would have first thought I had Leukemia again. This treatment
was able to make my own body produce a huge amount of stem cells, there are
actually three kinds of stem cells, and the inside of my bones was/is where
they are stored.

So far, I no longer require taking any insulin and my blood glucose is doing
great. My kidney function has dropped from stage four to stage three
failure, and as of now I do not need any dialysis or either a kidney
transplant.

Now, what this means is that through innovations they came up with something
that could help many people out there, and what's to say in the future
you or anyone else will also be "cured" of your CML. You never know, and
that is food for thought.

I wish you to be healthy and happy, and just take one day at a time.

GOD bless you,

Marty
