Hoefully, it will take me a while to build back to the toxic level of 5
years. We haven't discussed using 300mg instead of 400mg. My ONC's
observation is that Gleevec has the longest history of side effects to work
with. I haven't totally proven that Gleevec doesn't work, we staqrted this
little test to see if my body could control the CML as we know that I was
not elgible for transplnt: 1. Too old. 2. no sibling match 3. using MUD
was too high risk compared to the new drugs being developed at that time.
My ONC has several patients on different protocols for comparision and he
was a researcher Kansas Univerisity Hospital while finishing his Oncology
specialist. He does consult with several of the top 15 specialists in the
US and I have had several recommendations and approvals for what I am
doing. The Big and Best piece of info is that I haven;t had a blast phase
since I was diagnosed in 2003. My highest WBC was 96,000 as I began the
regimine to take Gleevec. My goal is CONTROL CML, as I do have other
serious problems that will be my cause of death. I thank God (my chosen
diety) each day and he gives me the peace and tranquillity to do what is
necessary to survive.
