Congratulations, Jennifer, and thank you for being a part of the fight for
better lives and cures! I, too, am raising funds through Team in Training and
my husband and I have been doing so since 2000. We are now doing our 13th
fundraising marathon for TNT, the inaugural Nike Women's Half Marathon, and we
are involved with our team year round. We are proud of the $$$ we have raised
for the LLS mission. Dr. Druker had many grants from the Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society that supported the research that led to Gleevec. When I found out about
that, I joined the team (I was still in the STI 571 trial at UCLA as a matter
of fact) to run the L.A. Marathon in March of 2001 (I signed my husband up too
who was on a business trip. Boy was he surprised!) Little did I know that when
I was fighting through that challenging first year after my diagnosis in
1997-98 (on Interferon and cytarabine every day) that there was an army of
people out there raising the funds that would soon save me. I am blessed to be
on a team of people who, in my opinion, are among the "good guys" of the world!

Good luck on your full marathon. On behalf of all of us, I thank you for
committing your mind, body and soul to help blood cancer patients!

Subject: [CMLHope] CML Patient Raising Funds for LLS

 Hello to All,
Many years ago I was a regular visitor to this group, more recently an
occasional observer. You see, in June of 2001 I was diagnosed with CML. That
was less than one month after Gleevec was approved. I began on Gleevec and soon
held one of the coveted slots on Zavie's "Zero Club" list. Since then I have
been on daily doses of Gleevec and have had the opportunity to watch my
children, who were very young at the time of my diagnosis, grow up.
Unfortunately, I also saw friends in other countries (where Gleevec was not
available at the time) who I met on this site succumb to their disease. I am
eternally greatful for the role that the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society played
in getting Gleevec to market for use by the general population in the United
States. On January 13, 2013 I am participating in the Walt Disney World
Marathon (my first full marathon) with Team in Training to raise funds for the
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help in their continuing war against blood
cancers. To read more about my story or, perhaps, make a donation to the LLS,
please visit my fundraising site at:

 Thank you, Jennifer in Indiana
