Hello CML Survivors: I haven't been around in some time, but I do read and keep up with you. This group has changed so much since I first started. So many now are on the other drugs instead of the Gleevec.
Well, I had my six month check up last Wednesday and my blood counts all looked really good. Awaiting the "Biggy" test (as I call it), which will take about 10 to 12 days. Course, with Thanksgiving thrown in there, might take it a little longer. Who knows anymore. My doctor, Nurse Practitioner, & I are very interested in this BCR-ABL test, since it will be six months since we dropped the Gleevec Dosage down to only 100mgs. I feel so much better than I ever did at the 400mgs. I no longer am bothered with nausea or the muscle cramps. I do still struggle with pain, but I have a lot of arthritis. Holly, the NP, mentioned that they've had a couple of patients to go off the Gleevec totally and so far are doing well. I'm not sure I feel comfortable yet to do that. On another note, have been able to put me a little "stash" back of the Gleevec since I started dropping the dosage. They kept using the old prescription and would send me the dosage amount for when I was doing the 200mgs. a day. So, I have managed to put back a years supply. I keep a watch on the date, so to always use the older bottle up first. My husband suggested I do this not knowing what the insurance is going to do. Thanks and everyone have a very Happy Thanksgiving! So ver much to be thankful for. I am getting really close to my ten year anniversary with CML. It will be February the 6th.
