Hi all

I hope I may disturb your discussions on wysiwyg editor and preserving pagination with
research again. I'm currently writing a thesis on the cost efficiency of CMS. Some
time ago I posted the topic "Are there ways to measure the quality, effectiveness,
accuracy and timeliness of content?". I would like to thank John Girard, Nuno Lopez,
Jospeh Martins and others for taking time to provide me with their insights. Based
hereon and on my own review of some literature, I propose to assess the efficiency of
CMS using the following hypotheses:

H1: The type of CMS will influence the quality of the content.
Companies without a CMS produce poorer quality content than companies that do have a
CMS.

H2: The support of a project champion will positively affect the quality of
content produced in any organization.

H3: More training of people involved in the content management process will
have a positive effect on eventual quality of content.

H4: Larger numbers of non-technical contributors of content will negatively
affect the quality of content. The impact will be more severe for companies that do
not employ a CMS.

H5: More organizational experience with information systems in general
will have a positive impact on content quality.

H6: A company that uses a CMS has more specialized job descriptions, which
leads to higher productivity and less cost for the webdesign team.
The cost per non-technical user will be lower.

H7: A company that uses a CMS saves cost by being able to reuse content.

H8: Companies with a CMS have sites with more up-to-date content, audited
information, and a consistent presentation.

H9: Companies with a CMS have better control over their unstructured data.

H9.1: Better integration means better quality content

H10: Increased depth and breadth of information, as well as more means by which it is
presented, will have a positive impact on end-user perception of quality

H11: The same type of content may be perceived as having less quality
depending on the industry, or the profession of the end-user.

H12: End-users will perceive the content on the websites of companies that
employ a CMS to be more tailored to their needs.

I intend to send a questionnaire to managers of companies that employ a CMS and
compare their results with the response of managers of companies that do not use a
CMS. This questionnaire I use to test hypotheses 1 through 9. (does anyone have an
idea how to test h9 and h9.1?)

Then I also intend to set up a quality assessment of websites by students. They should
(not knowing) evaluate the websites of companies that employ a cms and of companies
that don't. This approach I use to test hypotheses 10-12.

I apologize for this very long email, and would be delighted to hear your comments

Pascal Westers
