Well, isn't this a comparison of apples and oranges? Java is a programming language and execution environment while .NET is a framework, right? A unified set of APIs and object models? I'm not aware of any Java-based CMS that conforms to a larger standard, though it would be nice.
If .NET has a spec for CMS, do other comparable frameworks as well? i.e. Sun ONE (Liberty Alliance's stuff)... I thought the folks at internet2.edu might have something, but I don't see anything on their site. Since many CMS are frameworks within themselves, it seems challenging to figure out which are parts of or built against larger frameworks through simple Google searches, though I believe the question will become more prominent even at my site (University of Texas at Austin) as centralized access control/ web SSO becomes more emphasized. If anyone can offer input on which CMS are compatible with which portal frameworks, it would be much appreciated. It looks like vignette, fatwire, ldapguru EIP, and Sun have SunONE-compatible CMS, so it looks like there's one framework that's well-developed. Maybe more to the earlier point, does anyone have a comparison of .NET CMS solutions to those on Sun ONE? -- Eric Irrgang - UT ITS Unix Consulting - (512)475-9342 -- http://cms-list.org/ more signal, less noise.
