Check out <URL: http://www.ethnologue.com/ >, put out by SIL International; 
they have done some of the best linguistic research in the world in order 
to support their goal of translating the Bible into every 
language.  Ethnologue has downloadable databases of languages, codes, and 
the nations in which they are spoken.
