Rita likes yours better too.

And yes, as Bob points out it must be made ASCII. In theory the
records are shorter before encoding, so there would be a weeny
advantage to do the xlate first (and you might be able to save on the
x15 if you use a LF).
Some of the unsafe characters would not even survive that translation,
so I'm not sure how that would work.
