Yes, the "is there a pipeline module in use" test has been broken for quite awhile. I found some notes I exchanged with John 4 years ago about it. The internals of pipelines changed and made the test break. I don't know of a way to update the test to make it work, so I haven't updated the code in PICKPIPE.
