1) Your suggestion certainly does the job (and should work with even
"lead" pipes).  Thanks!
2) Wow!  I certainly did not interpret RANGE as requiring an exact match
for the whole range.  As you indicated so succinctly, I expected it to
work like LOCATE, not PICK.

In keeping with "When the keyword RANGE is specified, the input range is
inspected for continuation;" ...
other than TRAILING or LEADING, aside from historical usage I didn't see
anything specifically defining a continuation character as being in a
specific location.  Certainly nothing in the RANGE indicates that it has
to be an exact match for the entire range.

Maybe it's time for me to submit a Reader Comment Form?  Or, is there a
benefit in RANGE acting as LOCATE?  It _seems_ that RANGE would work just
well for a continuation character acting as LOCATE instead of PICK.
Working as LOCATE permits wider application usage, yet can conform with
PICK simply by defining a limited RANGE specification.
