I think you mean PIPSERV STOP (if it has such a command). PIPMOD STOP does nothing graceful.
As for waiting to infinity, why? Presumably you're waiting for something else too. Rip that piece of junk out! Maybe PIPSERV should use SERVUS.REXX instead. The P390 has no STCKE.
