Our archaic site doesn't provide SFS, which I believe is a prerequisite
for BFS, so no whirl. But the administrator who mandated that policy
retired this year, so there might be hope.

There's "BFSXECUTE mkfifo", so named pipes appear to be supported. And
Endicott pipes has a BFS driver. Would that need to do anything special
for named pipes rather than other byte stream files?

But they have spawn (BPX1SPN), which should suffice, even though
it has limitations. z/OS USS Rexx also doesn't support "SYSCALL
fork". I deal with it.
