The problem is that a 3270 has no idea what a "line" is.  It only knows
about formatted fields.   (This is what you get when you're invented in a
time when I/O is slow and CPUs are expensive.)

I do think that the 3270 suffers from a lack of "vertical fields".   The
3270 Entry Assist Feature (DOC mode) can help hide that, but having a
field that the 3270 can reflow vertically would be great.
