Hmmm, I never thought to have my XEDITIT REXX provide a default fileid. The rest basically goes like so: Address XEDIT 'COMMAND EXTRACT /FNAME/FTYPE/FMODE' 'COMMAND XEDIT' Arg(1) 'COMMAND XEDIT' fname.1 ftype.1 fmode.1 Address 'addpipe *: | xedit' Arg(1) '| *:' I went through the extra step of keeping the current file current so that it wouldn't be yanked out from under a stage that was reading it in multiple steps with XEDIT. (A single XEDIT stage will keep reading or writing the same file, but a stage that issues CALLPIPE XEDIT | ... repeatedly will get whatever file happens to be current each time.) ¬R
