First: if there is an archive of this CMS list, could someone send a

A client of mine is convinced his project needs to be built on Plone/
Zope (http://plone.org). It seems like a good fit, so I'm willing to
go along with it. The HTML/CSS/AJAX templates are already being
developed, but this decision on the backend technology has taken an
inordinate amount of time and we're far behind. Therefore, whatever
we settle on will need to support the (X)HTML+CSS that we're doing in
a fairly reasonable manner because it won't be changing.
Moreover, since we have no experience with Plone, tips toward helping
us find capable Plone developers to subcontract to would be very
valuable. So:
1- does anyone with experience in creating templates for Plone have
any advice, warnings, or other caveats for standards-based
development under that framework? (I've read Roger Johansson's
comments on the matter -- nearly scared me off.)
2- does anyone with experience in creating Plone-based applications
with strong workflow requirements want a job that starts yesterday? :)
Advice on building is welcome on the list; work inquiries are
probably best sent to me directly.
Thanks, all.
There are a heap of Plone consultants out there. Just search for them,
you'll find lots of highly capable developers, but they may not have
your degree of skill in web standards. You shouldn't have a problem
finding someone to work with in that area, many of them run successful
businesses deploying Plone sites.
I agree that Plone is not as straight forward to deal with under the
hood as most of the Plone developers seem to feel. I'm just revisiting
Plone again for an upcoming project. It seems that they are having to
readdress the whole skinning issue, and the default CSS is poorly
designed IMHO, where much better thought should have been given to a
more simple and elegant CMS framework, a framework that makes simple
sense to WSD.
Their approach is that you just add your styles to the custom Plone css
and cascading will take care of it, but as Roger points out, most of us
do not want to go down that path and want to build our own custom
templates, which requires time and dedication to working with Plone.
