Yes, that would be quite a terrific idea. A few days ago, I released my
CMUCL-based tools with which I do exceptional group theory for
supergravity to the public (->
http://www.cip.physik.uni-muenchen.de/~tf/lambdatensor/ ), and indeed,
packaging those things was quite a considerable amount of work.
Basically, I ripped the cl-odcl package apart to see what to place where
and built my package along these lines. (Still having a bad feeling in the
stomach about not having gotten everything right at the first try.)

But having some easy-to-use skeleton (perhaps generated by a tool like
h2xs for perl) would be quite nice.
