looks like probably data segment. comparison of "ulimit -a" output with my
solaris 8 system and redhat 7.3 system, neither of which had any issues, is
instructive. i'll have to do a little tinkering. neither solaris nor redhat
seem to want to impose much if anything in the way of limits.
