What Common Lisp interpreter is most widely used? Is it CMUCL? I read
everywhere online that "Emacs is the favorite of most LISP programmers,"
but Emacs (when you use M-x lisp-mode or M-x ielm) does not provide
support for all of Common Lisp. I've bought a couple ANSI Common Lisp
books (such as Graham's), and they all use ">" as a prompt and say that
most Lisp interpreters use ">" as a prompt. CMUCL uses a "*". Obviously,
I do not really care what my prompt looks like, but this prompt lead to
believe that maybe there is some standard Lisp interpreter that the
majority of Lisp programmers use. Is CMUCL an alternative to one
standard Lisp Interpreter that I don't know about, or is CMUCL the
standard, or is CMUCL just one of many equally popular Lisp
interpreters? I am new to Linux (and therefore Emacs) and Lisp.

I'd really appreciate it if you could fill me in. Thanks!
