rif> Does CMUCL do anything to enforce the types on class slots? Gerd Moellman has been working on using slot type information for both error checking and optimization. This has been added to CMUCL since the 18e release, and is still experimental (but would benefit from motivated testers!). The details of the optimizations, and the circumstances in which they work, are described in the CMUCL User's Manual in CVS. Don't look for it in the manual on the web site, since that is for the 18e release. Formatting your own copy of the User Manual from the CVS sources should be easy: just type "make cmu-user.pdf" in the docs/cmu-user/ directory. I guess we could also distribute preformatted documentation from CVS snapshots if there is much demand. -- Eric Marsden <URL:http://www.laas.fr/~emarsden/>
