Gary:

That was my formula to match the gelcoat on our boat. I broke the gelcoat all along the top of one of the cabin windows during its removal which added another dimension to an already onerous job.

I started the gelcoat repair by mixing the gelcoat in a "plastic bottle cap".....that way I had the same amount/volume of gelcoat.....I experimented with the 3 added colors (brown, yellow, black). I would take a wooden match with the respective color on its tip and just touch it on the gelcoat in the cap.....this was counted as a 'drop'.....each time I would make a batch, I would write down the formula. The 6 brown, 3 yellow, 2 black in one cap of gelcoat was almost a perfect for my deck. It certainly was close enough for a 28 year old C&C.

I'm sure there are better ways to match gelcoat colors but this method worked for me.

I remember a post which had the "mix" for matching C&C gelcoat - obviously the generic non faded version:

One cap gelcoat
6 drops brown, 3 yellow, and 2 black.

Haven't tried it, hope someone can, I have some touch up to do....

There is no one answer to your question. Gelcoat colours vary subtly from boat to boat, year to year and the sun plays a big role in how they fade.

I suggest getting a gelcoat kit which includes the dyes and mixing your own.
There are lots of tips on the internet.

Subject: Stus-List Touch-up paint which matches gelcoat on deck of an LF38

Hi everyone,

I epoxy filled a few screw holes on deck, now it's time to paint the
tiny repairs. Would anyone know the brand/colour code which best
matches the gelcoat on the deck of a Landfall 38?

Thanks in advance,
