Keith,

Having R&R'd my keel some years ago, it was a pricey procedure. We had to
unstep the rig to get the forward keel bolt out. The total was around $7K,
which included a fair amount of glass work on the keep stub, a SS support
for the forward keel bolt, and fairing the keel back onto the boat.

Subject: Stus-List keel joint on a c/b boat...

This question is directed at those out there with centerboard modeled C&Cs.

After hauling for hurricane sandy, I noticed that there is a crack running
the entire circumference of the keel joint. but the crack seems to be too
high on the hull to be the actual LEAD-to-Fiberglass joint.

to explain.....I think when C&C made the centerboard models, they used a
"transition piece" or "filler piece" to make up the difference between the
two different keel joints.

For example, on the 35-3, the deep keel boat has a keel joint that is
somewhat angular (higher in the rear, lower in the front), while the c/b
model has a joint that is basically parallel with the waterline.
Also the deep keel boat has a keel joint that is only 5 feet long (along the
joint) while the c/b keel is at least 8' or so long (along the joint) .

So the question....has anybody with a C/B ever re-done their keel joint?
how big of a disaster am I into?
also....to anyone who's recently redone their keel joint...how much did it
cost? (including pulling the rig and restepping it)

thanks,
Keith M
