Hi Danny, If you have a new wind instrument that isn't working, it should be worth getting it fixed? It may be a loose wire or a bad solder or something simple? Google "Marine electronics" repairers in your area and talk to them. You may find someone will look at it for free and advise you, especially during te winter. You can also get a stand alone wind instrument from most brands.
I needed a whole system because my displays died on my Signet Smartpaks. I struggled with which system to buy a few years before deciding on TackTick. We raced for a season without wind speed or depth, and I think we learned to sail better, not having all the numbers and focusing on sail trim and how we compared to other boats. There are more expensive systems, especially if you have to buy cables to link them all. I considered reliability, and future product support since many manurfacturers were dropping out of the business, like my old Signet instruments. I waited till Defender held their annual March Madness sale and saved 20%. I expect Raymarine will redesign te whole line very soon as they tend to do with their other stuff, and I hope they bring down the price, make the displays a little brighter, w bigger font readouts, etc? I like the wireless feature. It enables me to relocate the displays by simply mounting a plastic bracket, three screws. I can place them at the helm, or on wall in front of the cockpit, at the mast or inside the cabin, or inside my landlords house, sipping beers, to watch the windspeeds while a front passes. I can relocate them while they are powered on, pretty cool. Each display comes with two brackets, so I store the things inside the cabin, away from vandals. I have a little bright yellow backpack to bring home the portable GPS 640, handheld VHF, portable spotlight, three Tacktick displays, etc. Chuck Resolute 1990 C&C 34R Atlantic City, NJ ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, December 8, 2012 10:25:59 AM Subject: Re: Stus-List TackTick Hi Chuck, Wow the 104 is nearly twice the price! Was the only thing you didn't like the power drain? I'm not sure I want to spend that much... I'm really just trying to get her up to date but, I wouldn't be buying instruments at all if I could figure out why the wind 3100 was't working. I get depth from an existing Garmin fishfinder 240. It works so I'd live with that for a while. I would just really like some working wind info. I wanted to remove Nav Instrument load from the house batteries. I have the Tacktick 104 wireless system; 2 solar dual line displays and a solar analog wind display. Each display came with two mounts. I like being able to take the displays off the cockpit mounts and click them into my nav area where I can see them inside. In winter, they go into a backpack and come home. I bought the T104 package plus an extra T111 display. I installed the system myself and am still learning how to calibrate and use the system. It seems to be a quality product. The solar works great and the displays seem to hold a charge a long time without charging. Each display can be charged from a 12vdc source, they provide connections for that, but I just set the displays on a windowsill once a month and they work great. My wind indicator doesn't work at all. The display turns on and looks fine but when I hook it up to the unit at the top of the mast it goes all haywire. I'd prefer to fix what I have but they no longer make the NavMan 3100 wind and I think it is pretty old. http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|344|2028690|2028820&id=1570966&cartId=3882749 _______________________________________________ This List is provided by the C&C Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com [email protected] _______________________________________________ This List is provided by the C&C Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com [email protected]
